Government funding could run out tonight.

The House and Senate are seeking an agreement for a temporary extension.

The spending bill the House narrowly passed last night is considered a long shot to win approval in the Senate.

President Trump weighed in on the matter this morning on Twitter.

He wrote "Government Funding Bill past last night in the House of Representatives. Now Democrats are needed if it is to pass in the Senate — but they want illegal immigration and weak borders."

The measure would provide four weeks of funding and keep the government running past midnight.

Democrats are demanding that spending legislation include a provision permanently shielding nearly $700,000 undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children from deportation.

Republicans want to keep that issue separate from funding and budget negotiations.

The spending bill needs 60 votes to pass in the Senate and that means at least nine Democrats would have to support it, assuming all 51 Republicans vote yes.
