Melania Trump has been frugal in her first nine months as the First Lady. According to a report by Fox News, Mrs. Trump is spending a fraction of what Michelle Obama spent during her eight years as First Lady. White House personnel reports show that Trump has cut her number of aides from sixteen to just four.

The sixteen aides hired by Michelle Obama cost taxpayers $1.24 million per year, while the yearly salary of  Melania's aides is paltry $486,700.

The First Lady has five other staffers on payroll, bringing her total to nine, compared to the record number of 24 people employed by Mrs. Obama.

In a statement emailed to Fox News, communications director Stephanie Grisham said the small staff was intentional:

As with all things that she does, she is being very deliberate in her hiring, focusing on quality over quantity. It is important to her that the team is a good fit for what she wants to accomplish as first lady, and that everyone works well together. She also wants to be mindful and responsible when it comes to taxpayer money.

The cost cutting isn't just in the office of the First Lady. According to a report released in June, Trump has 110 fewer staff members than Obama, saving the taxpayers around $22 million over four years.
